Born on July 19, 1956, he lives and works in Ottensheim on the Danube in Upper Austria, spending some time in Bohemia and Albania. He is a woodcutter, draftsman, book illustrator, and founded the Edition Thanhäuser in 1989.
Solo exhibitions: Albania, China, Germany, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Turkey, Ukraine, Hungary.
Awards: among others, the V.O.Stomps Award of the city of Mainz, awards for the most beautiful books of Austria, Ottensheim Culture Prize, Grand Culture Prize of the State of Upper Austria for Art in Intercultural Dialogue.
He has illustrated over a hundred books with woodcuts and pen drawings. Currently, he is working on the 10-volume insect work by Jean-Henri Fabre for Matthes & Seitz Berlin, “The Walk” by Robert Walser for the Insel Bücherei (”The Pond” has already been published), and a more extensive cycle of woodcuts about Karl Kraus in Bohemia and in the Canton of Glarus.
