Erwin Wurm gained a world wide reputation for his paradoxal and absurd view on our present time, and for the way his work broadens the limit of sculpture.
Since the 1990s, he created the One Minute Sculptures, for which volunteers hold for one minute unusual position in relation to commun objects, thus becoming sculptures themselves.
In 2012-2013, he modeled in clay European and American architectures before performing actions on them. The resulted forms have then been casted in resin, aluminium or bronze with various patinas. Some of these sculptures will be shown in the Allmeinde, set in relation with a series of iconic One Minute Sculptures photographs.
Institutional solo exhibitions of Wurm's work include the Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil, the 21er Haus and Leopold Museum in Vienna and the Lehmbruck Museum in Duisburg. In 2017, Erwin Wurm furthermore represented Austria at the 57th Biennale in Venice.
Erwin Wurm was born in Bruck an der Mur/Austria, in 1954; he lives and works in Vienna and Limberg.
