Allmeinde Commongrounds

  • A cultural initiative by Katia and Gerold Schneider

"Commons" traditionally refers to what belongs jointly to a community. The members of the commons assign and take responsibility for the rules themselves, which ensure the sustained availability of the respective common goods. Recently, there has been a renewed interest in the concept of the commons. In situations where an economy focused on the common good and the corresponding provisions for existence are increasingly hindered in favor of a speculative economy, and where a sense of community is disappearing in favor of a culture of competition and the pursuit of increased possession, there is a need for action. allmeinde commongrounds addresses this and asks how, based on the tradition of the commons, a "commonground" can be conceived and designed today, and what real and imaginary spaces are needed for this purpose.
